We transform lives

Skills for Southern Sudan was established in 1995 by Southern Sudanese refugees and British friends.

We build the peace

In 2004, after almost half a century of intermittent civil war that resulted in the death of more than 1.5 million people, a Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed. The challenge for the nascent government in the south is to renovate and rebuild a society that has been devastated by war, and faces serious shortages of skilled, professional people.

We develop society

This is where Skills for Southern Sudan comes in. Our focus is on the provision of training to individuals working in institutions and organisations. The future is challenging. By being flexible and responsive to the needs of our beneficiaries, we're confident that we’ll assist the development of a peaceful, just and sustainable Southern Sudan.

Two themes will underpin our work–gender equity and good governance.

One of our current projects will train women to develop and build community based organisations in the states of Southern Sudan. Another project involves training national, regional and local government officials in management, administration and governance.
